Weekly Bible Study
Our weekly Bible study sessions are held every Wednesday at 7 PM in the Nelligan room, located in the Parish Office building. We hope that you will take a break from your busy work week and join us for a time of discussion, prayer, and spiritual growth!
- Please note: Bible Study will be canceled on Wednesday, February 26th. Instead, we encourage you to attend the church’s Ash Wednesday Mass at 7 pm in the church.
Worship Night / Lenten Events
Discipleship’s Worship Nights are held monthly, and include a guest speaker, adoration, benediction, and opportunities for confession, followed by food and fellowship.
- Saturday, March 14th – Lenten Retreat (held in place of our March Worship Night)
Join us for our annual retreat at Mar-Lu-Ridge Camp and Retreat Center in Jefferson, MD! Take time this Lent to get away from the busyness of life and quiet your soul. We will meet at Immaculate at 8:15 AM for breakfast in the parish office building (in the Deacon John Gramling Room). We will be packing up at 8:35 AM, saying a prayer prior to departure, and leaving promptly at 8:45 AM. Cost of attendance is $10, which will cover the lunch provided by the retreat center. You must RSVP as “Going” and submit your $10 payment (to Jose by cash or Venmo) by March 6th, either via our Facebook event, or at firstname.lastname@example.org. Following our retreat, we will be stopping for dinner on the way home, so please also bring cash for your meal. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you on retreat!
- Thursday, April 9th – Holy Thursday Church Hopping (held in place of our April Worship Night)
After the Holy Thursday Mass (join us for Mass in the church at 7:30 PM), Discipleship will visit 7 churches that offer Adoration in downtown Baltimore. This tradition is known as the “Seven Church Walk” and was begun in the 16th century by St. Philip Neri, who loved finding different ways to bring people (especially young people) together. More details coming soon!
- Friday, April 10th – Good Friday – Remembering the Passion of Christ
Join Discipleship for the Good Friday service (starting at 3 PM in the church), followed by a viewing of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ in the Nelligan Room in the Parish Office building. Afterwards, we will attend Stations of the Cross in the church at 7:30 PM.
- Saturday, May 9th – Worship Night
Join us for our monthly Worship Night at 7:00 PM in the church! We will begin the night with a short talk by a guest speaker, followed by Eucharistic Adoration and the opportunity to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation. Afterwards, we will gather for food and fellowship. More details to follow.
We invite you to join us and other young people in serving our parish and becoming more involved in the Mass by offering Holy Communion, reading the Word of God, or being the face of Christ to others through Immaculate’s Encounter Ministry!
Eucharistic Minister/Lector: If you are interested in being trained, please contact Fr. Joe Barr for more details. You can request to serve every 3rd Sunday of the month during the 5:30 PM Praise Mass with other young adults, and/or choose to be randomly assigned to various masses.
Encounter Ministry: The Encounter Ministry includes the tasks of greeting, handing out song sheets, seating people, doing the collection, handing out bulletins, etc. The goal is to use these “tasks” as opportunities to be Christ to the congregation! You are not required to sign up in advance to participate but can volunteer whenever you are able. Please contact Lauren McKeegan if you would like to be trained.
- Sunday, February 16th – Praise Mass – Join Discipleship for Mass at 5:30 PM in the main church! We usually sit on the right side around the first pillar and confessional, several rows from the front. If you have been trained at Immaculate Conception as a Eucharistic Minister or lector, we encourage you to sign-up for this Mass in advance or ask if any help is needed when you arrive. Also, if you’ve been trained as an Encounter Minister, please check in when you arrive to see if you can assist in any way. Please RSVP on our Facebook event page, or at email@example.com, so we know to look for you!
Social and Service Events
From attending community events such as Orioles games and Relay for Life to serving at places like Our Daily Bread and local pregnancy centers, Discipleship’s social and service events offer a variety of ways to get involved and serve others.
- Saturday, February 22nd – Bowling Night
Join Discipleship for a night of bowling at 7 pm at Stoneleigh Lanes (6703 York Rd.)! Cost is $8 per person (from 7-8 pm), and then $15 per person to bowl past 8 pm for the rest of the night, and includes shoe rental. We will be meeting beforehand for dinner at 5 pm. Please RSVP to Adriana Capizzi on our Facebook event page, or at firstname.lastname@example.org, by Thursday, February 20th.
