In addition to the summer math book, all students entering grades 1 – 8 must complete a summer reading assignment. For those students in grades assigned book reports or projects, these items will be collected and graded when the students return to school in August 2011. Enjoy the summer break and keep reading!

Incoming kindergarten students, those accepted for the 2011-2012 academic year, must complete the Summer Book K, published by Summerbook Company. This book is to be ordered on-line by parents/guardians. Following are the directions to place the order.
Place order for Summer Book K and materials only. It is not necessary to order any of the other supplemental materials.
All ICS students are required to review their math skills during the summer months by completing the book Summer Math Skills Sharpener. Parents/guardians may purchase the book by calling Tri-C Publications at 1-800-411-8186 or through the web site at http://www.summerskills.com/ For grades K - 4 only, please purchase the book for the grade the student has just completed, not the grade to be entered in the fall.
For grades 5 – 7 only, Summer Math Skills Sharpener levels were chosen based upon comparison of actual content at the different levels to specific skills covered within the various Saxon courses this year. It was determined that completing the book corresponding to the “grade just completed” would not provide sufficient challenge to our students, and would not serve to reinforce the full range of skills taught in the most recent academic year. Completing the book for the grade in which the child is entering is a way to lay the foundation for the coming school year.
As with all homework grading in our upper grades, students will be assessed based upon effort, not accuracy. The Summer Math Skills Sharpener books provide a lot of support, in terms of “Help Pages” with examples, provision of formulas, and answers in the back to check work. If students are unable to complete all problems, it will not affect their grade, and it is in no way necessary to seek outside help during the summer in order to complete these workbooks. A reasonable effort to complete the book is all this is asked – if students are unable to complete any portions of it, that helps us to know which skills need particular reinforcement next year.
Specific information regarding book assignments were issued to the students by the teachers.
All math books will be collected and graded for completion when the students return to school in August.
