Curriculum

The ICS curriculum offers a broad-based approach that follows the National Standards of Education and the Archdiocese of Baltimore Course of Study.  Students complete a variety of course offerings and subjects, including language arts, math, science, social studies, physical education, and religion.  The program is enhanced with numerous enrichment classes and programs as follows.

  • Algebra and Advanced Math Programs (SAXON Math)
  • Art
  • Library
  • Literature and Great Books Program
  • Music
  • Phonics
  • Penmanship
  • Spanish
  • Technology

Generally, ICS follows a standard of 24 students per grade in the elementary/middle school.  This size was determined by a study conducted by ICS School Board.  The actual class size, however, does vary by grade according to enrollment.  Additionally, several levels have classroom aides working with the teacher and the middle school is compartmentalized, an approach to teaching which provides for smaller classes.  Exact data on current enrollment per class is available from the school office.  A general summary of teacher/student ratio follows:

Pre-School:

  • · Three-year-old and Four-year-old classes: one teacher and one aide to 11 students
  •   Pre-K Class:  one teacher and one aide to 14 students

Kindergarten:

  •  One teacher and one aide to each class

Grades 1 – 5:

  • One teacher per class

Middle School:

  • 10 teachers to 6 homeroom classes (Students break out into three groups for math and language arts.)
