CONFIRMATION FOR YOUTH

The Sacrament of Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation in which the candidate, sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, enters more deeply into the life of the Body of Christ, the Church. Strengthened by the Holy Spirit, the confirmed are called to live more fully their Baptismal call to witness to and share Jesus' mission of love with the world.

Immediate preparation for the sacrament takes place in experiential workshops. These workshops are separate from religious education in the parish or Catholic school where the candidate must also enroll. Preparation includes catechesis about the sacrament and related topics, work with a sponsor, service projects, and a retreat. Other activities will help the candidate to understand it means to be a disciple of Jesus. Complete information concerning the program will be given at the first preparation session for prospective candidates, parents,  and/or their sponsors.

It is the custom of Immaculate Conception to prepare students at the 8th grade level for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  The eligible Candidate will have received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Holy Communion and be a practicing Catholic who regularly attends Mass on Sundays and on Holy Days of Obligation.  In addition, the Archdiocese requires that students receive catechetical instruction for a minimum of one year immediately prior to entrance into the Confirmation preparation process.  A student may wish to delay the reception of this sacrament to a later time if he/she is not prepared to make a mature commitment to his/her faith.

The Parent-Candidate Orientation will take place on October 9, 2011 at 6:45PM in the Auditorium (changed from original date of October 2).  All candidates MUST attend this meeting with either their parent/guardian or Confirmation sponsor. 

THE COMPLETE CONFIRMATION APPLICATION PACKET IS DUE BY THE PARENT-CANDIDATE ORIENTATION ON OCTOBER 9 2011.  Application packets will gladly be accepted anytime prior to the Orientation. 

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Candidate's retreat choice will not be considered until the entire Application Packet is completed and returned.  Retreat choice requests will be honored in the order which completed applications are received.
