IC Book Club: The first Monday of each month the group meets to discuss their reading of books they have chosen. The book club is open to anyone who is interested in reading for pleasure, discussion content, and having a group with common interests. Next meeting is March 6th in the Msgr. Tinder Parish Hall. We will be discussing Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves & the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel. We will chose the next book title that night. Dessert & Dialogue is a program of evening speakers that will address issues of spirituality and contemporary life. These presentations are held in our Parish Hall and are free to all.
On January 24 7-9 pm Mr. Michael May, Esq. Towson attorney and long time parishioner will lead us in a presentation and discussion on the Church's stance on the DEATH PENALTY. This is a very important right to life subject that begs all of our parishioners attention. Mr. May is a former police officer, has been named to the Governors Panel on the Death Penalty and is an experienced lecturer. Please join us in the Parish Hall for this presentation.
February 21st 7-9 pm Mr. John Weetenkamp, Mr. John Weetenkamp Director of Ignatian Mission and Identity at Loyola Blakefield will be presenting the Spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola in the Parish Hall. Mr. Weetenkamp was forced to cancel is earlier presentation date due to illness....lucky for us he is able to share his insights with us now. Different forms of prayer and meditation can be a new tool in your life. The speaker series is open to all without cost. Mini-Lending Library: The Parish Mini-Lending Library has been quite a success. More than 40 people have checked out books on the Lives of the Saints. Right after the first of the year we will be changing the theme so be on the lookout for the announcement. If there is a book that you might be particularly interested in that is not on the shelf please contact adultfaith@theimmaculate.org to check that it is available. Please return books as soon as possible and initial the sign-in sheet.
Psalms: The School of Prayer: This 10 week series developed by Jeff Cavins, Sarah Christmyer, and Tim Gray is part of the Great Adventure Series offered by Ascension Press. NOURISH YOUR SOUL. The focus of the study is to move us from telling the story of salvation to making it a personal experience. The Psalms reveals Israel's response to God's covenant and serves as a model for our own response to him. Discover a rich school of prayer for all of life's circumstances and study the way the Psalms foretell the life and mission of Jesus. Two sessions will be held on Thursday mornings 9-11 a.m. and Thursday evenings 7-9 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Mark these dates on your calendar: January 5, 12, 19, 26; February 2, 9, 16, 23; and March 1, 8, 15. An excellent exercise in preparation for Lent. There is a $25. cost for the workbook. Lenten Family Suppers: SAVE THE DATES TO NOURISH YOUR BODY AND SOUL! The Church of the Immaculate Conception Adult Faith Enrichment committee has already begun planning to introduce the custom of Lenten Family Suppers. These are family events which will include a meatless dinner, an activity for the children, and a brief Lenten message for adults, followed by the Stations of the Cross. Mark the dates to bring the family for fun and prayer during Lent. February 24, March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 at 5:30 in the school cafeteria. The suppers are sponsored by the Scouts, Immaculate Conception School, Outreach, Adult Faith, Music Ministry, and the Youth Ministry. A free will offering will be collected at the door to defray costs.
Retreats: Adult Faith Enrichment has scheduled a full day retreat (8:30-3:00) at the Bon Secours Spiritual Life Center in Marriottsville, MD on May 12, 2012. The subject of day of retreat and reflection "Is There a Stone in Your Heart? - Praying for loved ones who are not participating in the Catholic Church”. Participation will be limited to 20 adults and transportation can be arranged. NOURISH YOUR SOUL.
