Meet Our Pastor

 Rev. Joseph F. Barr

Archbishop O'Brien appointed Father Joseph Barr to be the Pastor of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Towson Maryland effective July 1, 2010. The church serves a Catholic community of 3,200 families, a kindergarten through eighth grade school, and 20 nursing homes, hospitals, continuing care communities and hospices.

Fr. Barr graduated from St. Mary’s Seminary College with a double major in philosophy and psychology.  In 1974 he was admitted to the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome where he received a degree in Sacred Theology followed by a year of post graduate studies at the Pontifical Biblicum Institute.  He also holds a MA degree in Biblical Studies from the Catholic University of America.  He was ordained by Cardinal Shehan in 1978.

He was an Associate Pastor at St. Matthew, Immaculate Conception, and the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen churches.  Fr. Barr was pastor of Holy Family Church in Davidsonville, Maryland in 1995 when Archbishop O'Brien dedicated a new 29,000 square feet Spiritual Life Center to accommodate the needs for a Parish Hall, nursery, libraries and classrooms for 600 children in the Religious Education Program.  In recognition of Fr. Barr’s efforts in directing the church expansion, the new center was named “The Fr. Joseph F. Barr Spiritual Life Center.”  He was also given a life-time achievement award by the Anne Arundel Police Department in recognition of his efforts to work with the Chaplaincy Corps, and assist in training police officers in bereavement, death notification, and community participation.  Fr. Barr has also held teaching assignments at Trinity College in Washington, DC as well as St. Mary’s Seminary.

He served for six years each on the Board of Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn and as president of the Board of Pastors for the School of the Incarnation in Gambrills, Maryland.  He served as the elected convener for the priests of Anne Arundel County and was their representative to the Archdiocesan Presbyteral Council.  He currently serves as the elected convener for churches in north Baltimore County region.

Fr. Barr is a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
